“We will not allow anyone to use our country the way Ukraine was used, leading to the grave consequences we now see there,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze in response to a question regarding Georgia’s possible involvement in the war.
According to Kaladze, numerous statements were made about opening a so-called “second front” in Georgia, including direct calls from senior Ukrainian officials.
“There were open appeals for Georgia to join the war. We are not inventing this — these were real threats made in closed-door meetings towards the Prime Minister and the party chairman, that a second front must be opened in Georgia and that we would be provided with all necessary military equipment. In addition, high-ranking Ukrainian officials publicly declared that Georgia should help and open a second front. This is, of course, very serious. With our policies and vision, we are protecting our country and pursuing a course that, first and foremost, safeguards the national interests of Georgia. We will not allow anyone to use our country the way Ukraine was used, with all the devastating consequences we, unfortunately, see there,” - Kaladze stated.
