Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has accused European institutions of being “completely bankrupt” and treating Georgia unfairly for years, amid growing debate over divisions within the European Union.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Kaladze was commenting on remarks by Slovakia’s prime minister calling for the resignation of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas. He said the statement highlighted internal tensions within the EU, which he argued are becoming increasingly visible.
“Let’s wait and see. I think we can all see what processes are unfolding in Europe and in the world more broadly,” Kaladze said. “The European bureaucracy, which is entirely bankrupt, continues to make statements and show attitudes towards countries. In Georgia’s case, we can say clearly that the attitude has been unfair and has continued for months and years.”
Kaladze added that disputes and rivalries inside the EU are now openly evident, and said the Georgian authorities were closely watching how developments in Europe unfold.
