Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has made an accusation against Germany’s Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, claiming he was part of what Kaladze described as violent groups involved in current street protests in the capital.

Responding to a question regarding Berlin’s recent comments on Georgia and the ambassador’s work in Tbilisi, Kaladze said the situation was unpleasant to address but insisted his claim was “a fact.”

“It is very difficult and unpleasant for me to speak about this, but one thing is a fact - the German ambassador is part of those violent groups currently present in the capital and one of the main encouragers,” Kaladze said.

He reiterated the ruling party’s narrative that the ongoing demonstrations were externally driven and funded:

“Everything we see today on the streets of the capital is imposed and financed from outside. They have their own masters abroad and their representatives here in Georgia, who are directly involved in managing these actions. This is very serious and unfortunate,” he added.
