Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has said those responsible for the alleged events of 4 October 2025 must be held accountable, praising Georgia's investigative authorities for preventing an “attempted overthrow of the Government”.
“The relevant investigative agencies are performing their duties at the highest level. We witnessed a series of developments. For several months, there was an open campaign in which people said they were preparing for a revolution. On 4 October, they began to carry it out,” Kaladze said.
He noted preventive measures taken by law enforcement agencies had thwarted the alleged plan, referring to an attempt to storm the presidential administration building.
“We saw footage of people entering the presidential administration, but the relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs prevented this criminal offence. Everyone must answer before the law,” Kaladze said.
The Mayor also alleged that foreign actors were seeking to remove Georgia's current Government and use the country to advance their own interests.
“It is unacceptable that, with the involvement of external forces, there are constant attempts to stage a coup, deepen polarisation and so on. This is being imposed from outside and large sums of money have been spent on it. Even today, there are attempts to replace the current Government with their own agents. We know why they want to do this – to use our country’s interests for their own purposes,” he said.
