Incumbent Mayor of capital Tbilisi and ruling party mayoral candidate Kakha Kaladze has expressed support for Mamuka Mdinaradze, the newly appointed head of Georgia’s State Security Service, calling his leadership “crucial” for the country.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Kaladze, who also serves as the secretary general of the GD, praised Mdinaradze’s parliamentary experience and party role, describing him as a patriot and responsible professional. “This service’s proper and effective functioning is extremely important for our country and its future. I sincerely wish him success,” he said.

Commenting on the departure of former Security Service head Anri Okhanashvili, Kaladze said personnel changes were routine and that Okhanashvili remained part of the team.

As part of his pre-election campaign, Kaladze met with local party members across Tbilisi’s Saburtalo, Vake, Samgori, Krtsanisi, and Mtatsminda districts to discuss the city’s development plans.

He emphasised the need to continue “vital reforms” in the capital and to launch new projects, promising to present proposals to residents in the near future. “Significant work has been carried out in Tbilisi in recent years, and everyone can see the positive changes. However, many challenges remain that require more effort, proper vision, and problem-solving. We are ready for this, and with the strong support of our citizens, we will deliver,”  Kaladze said.
