During his visit to Milan, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze met with Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala to discuss the future of bilateral relations and explore opportunities for deepening cooperation between Tbilisi and Milan in various fields.
According to Tbilisi City Hall, the two mayors touched upon the opening of the Georgian Consulate General in Milan, an initiative expected to further strengthen ties between the two countries and their capitals.
Kaladze expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by Mayor Sala and invited him to visit Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi.
“Thank you for the warm and friendly welcome. Georgia and Italy share a long history of cooperation and strong ties between our people. I hope to see our cities’ partnership grow even closer in all areas, and as Mayor of Tbilisi, I will spare no effort in this regard. Having spent ten years in Milan, I want to bring the wealth of experience this leading European city has to offer back to Tbilisi. We have already implemented several new projects in the city and have ambitious plans ahead. I invite you to our beautiful capital, which I am sure will leave a lasting impression on you,” Kaladze said.
For his part, Mayor Sala thanked Kaladze for his visit and reaffirmed Milan’s full commitment to strengthening cooperation between the cities. He also addressed the pressing global issue of climate change, which he noted poses a significant challenge to many cities worldwide.
“I am ready to foster deeper collaboration between Milan and Tbilisi across multiple areas. Additionally, I’d like to propose Tbilisi’s participation in the NC40 Cities initiative – a global network of cities working to combat climate change through both political and technical cooperation, with a strong focus on mayoral involvement.
The opening of Georgia’s Consulate General in Milan is a great opportunity for the development of bilateral relations. Many Georgian citizens live in Milan, so this new consulate will play an important role in helping them with various issues while also further strengthening ties between our countries,” Sala stated.
Georgia’s Consul General in Milan, Natalia Kordzaia, was also present at the meeting.
