Commenting on why he does not participate in televised debates on TV Pirveli, Kaladze said the broadcaster has been associated with spreading false information

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said that differing opinions are natural in a democratic society and that public debate is essential for determining the right direction.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Kaladze suggested that the absence of political discussions in Georgia may be the result of instructions coming from outside the country.

“Polemics and debates are always welcome. This is a common practice in all normal, developed countries. Unfortunately, in Georgia, insults, slander, and smear campaigns have become the daily practice of certain political parties. We have repeatedly stated that discussion is extremely important,” Kaladze said.

Referring to the recent municipal election campaign, he noted that, with few exceptions, candidates failed to address real challenges facing the capital, instead focusing on what he described as meaningless and fabricated topics.

Commenting on why he does not participate in televised debates on TV Pirveli, Kaladze said the broadcaster has been associated with spreading false information.

“When we talk about debates, we are talking about a healthy society. The television company has limited itself to lies and manipulation. I can say this based on personal experience as well”, he added.
