Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has expressed condolences following the death of Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, emphasizing the unity and resilience of the nation during the days of mourning.

Speaking at a municipal government meeting on Wednesday, Kaladze praised citizens of all religious and ethnic backgrounds for showing respect and solidarity, noting that long lines formed at the Holy Trinity Cathedral to pay their final respects. 

He also thanked municipal staff and religious representatives for their role in organizing the ceremonies.

Kaladze added that he believes the public will honor the Patriarch’s guidance by living with love, dignity, and calm determination. The mayor also congratulated citizens on the Day of the Restoration of the Georgian Orthodox Church’s Autocephaly, calling it a celebration of both religious and national significance.
