Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has extended his condolences to the people and government of Turkey following the crash of a Turkish military aircraft near Georgia’s border.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident - the crash of a Turkish military aircraft that claimed several lives. I express my solidarity with the Turkish people and the government of Turkey,” Kaladze wrote on social media.

According to reports, the aircraft went down roughly five kilometres from Georgia’s border while flying from Azerbaijan to Turkey.

Turkey’s Ministry of Defence said that 20 servicemen were on board the plane at the time of the crash. An investigation into the incident is under way.
