Kakha Kaladze, incumbent mayor of Tbilisi and the ruling Georgian Dream party’s mayoral candidate, emphasized the weight of responsibility he bears as he seeks reelection, stressing that leading the capital is both a challenge and a mission rooted in national identity.

Speaking at the presentation of majoritarian candidates for Tbilisi City Council, Kaladze said:

“As the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia candidate for Tbilisi mayor, and at the same time the current mayor of the capital, I am fully aware of the great responsibility entrusted to me by our political team.”

Kaladze acknowledged the complexities tied to the city’s growth, noting that despite ambitious plans eight years ago, the scale of problems exceeded expectations.

“There were no urban or transport planning documents. Infrastructure was in a dire state. Parks, playgrounds, and sports fields needed full restoration. Tbilisi was at risk due to chaotic development,” Kaladze said.

Describing Tbilisi as “the mirror of Georgian identity”, Kaladze noted its central role in shaping the country’s culture, religion, and history. He reaffirmed the importance of communication with residents, highlighting how dialogue has guided development efforts.

He praised the city council's majoritarian deputies for their role in staying close to citizens and relaying their concerns to City Hall.

“They became friends and supporters to residents. I’ve heard jokes—like in the case of Revaz Sokhadze—how Varketili residents say they even call him to change a lightbulb,” Kaladze said, thanking the deputies for their dedication.

Looking forward, he underlined the need for a strong, professional team in the council to realize the next phase of urban development.

“Peace for Georgia, more kindness for Tbilisi – that means more green spaces, rehabilitated streets and districts, more kindergartens, improved infrastructure, accessible services, and expanded programs in health, culture, sports, youth, and more,” Kaladze stated.

He concluded by urging continued support for a “team of professionals who are true supporters of Tbilisi.”
