Tbilisi is set to build what officials describe as the largest amusement park in the region, located near the Tbilisi Sea within the city’s dendrological park.
Incumbent Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced the project in a video statement on Facebook on Thursday, saying the development would feature multiple themed zones, including family, children’s and extreme rides, as well as restaurants, shops, relaxation areas and an events centre.
He further noted the project would draw inspiration from major international entertainment parks such as Disneyland, Legoland and Universal Studios.
He added that the family of billionaire and former prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, through the Cartu Foundation, would play a key role by covering significant construction costs. “I would like to thank Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family for their contribution, as they have done with many other projects in our city,”Kaladze said.
The mayor emphasised that the existing green areas of the dendrological park would be preserved and additional landscaping carried out. Infrastructure such as underground communications, lighting and utilities will also be built as part of the scheme.
Kaladze said the park was intended not only for residents of Tbilisi but also to attract visitors from neighbouring countries and beyond. “I am confident that with its scale and diversity, the park will become an attractive destination both for Georgians and international tourists,” he noted.
The project comes alongside the relocation of Tbilisi Zoo to a 50-hectare site adjacent to the dendrological park, which the mayor said would complement the new development.
