The recent European Parliament (EP) resolution, which calls for imposing sanctions on the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party founder, tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili, “will not force latter return to politics and act against the country’s interests through dragining it into Ukraine war,” Tbilisi Mayor, the GD official Kakha Kaladze said on Monday.
“The attitude in the resolution that Bidzina Ivanishvili is a bad man is absolutely unacceptable. If anyone thinks that Ivanishvili will be intimidated by the imposition of sanctions and will return to politics to drag Georgia into the war, they are wrong,” Kaladze suggested.
He said that he was optimistic over Georgia’s EU candidate status in the coming weeks, noting that if the EU refused to grant the status to Georgia for now, the country would continue on its path towards the bloc.
Ivanishvili’s Georgian Dream coalition defeated the nine-year-rule of the United National Movement back in 2012.
Since then Ivanishvili returned and left politics twice.
