Khatia Dekanoidze, Deputy Chair of the National Committee of the opposition United National Movement, said on Thursday that the ruling Georgian Dream party has decided to adjust its foreign policy image, noting that its founder Bidzina Ivanishvili is primarily concerned with avoiding isolation.
“Recent polls conducted by Georgian Dream show that even their own supporters do not want to see tensions with the United States and Europe,” Dekanoidze said.
“After the Ashgabat visit with Putin, worsening relations with the West and leaving Georgia’s fate in Russia’s hands would be extremely damaging. Isolation is a serious problem for everyone, including them,” she said.
“Now they have decided to change their foreign optics. For Ivanishvili, nothing matters more than avoiding isolation,” Dekanoidze added.
