Concrete actions are underway to impose financial sanctions on key figures linked to the ruling Georgian Dream party, including former Prime Minister and ruling Georgian Dream party founder Bidzina Ivanishvili, Khatia Dekanoidze, Deputy Chairperson of the National Committee of the Unity – National Movement announced on Friday.

Dekanoidze said efforts are being made to include Ivanishvili in the US Magnitsky List, which targets individuals involved in significant corruption or human rights violations.

“Concrete actions are being taken. Specific work is being carried out to include Ivanishvili in the Magnitsky List,” she said. “The [Donald] Trump administration's policy has already been formed toward the Georgian Dream regime, which, in our view, represents Russian interests in Georgia.”

Dekanoidze accused the Georgian Dream party of undermining democratic principles and warned of growing threats to Georgian sovereignty. She emphasized that the United States “must play a decisive role”, particularly through the use of sanctions.

“There will be financial sanctions, which we have been working on for a very long time,” she stated. “There will be specific sanctions against specific people.”
