Georgia’s opposition has raised concerns over the timing of criminal charges brought against former chief prosecutor Otar Partskhaladze, following the Interior Ministry’s announcement that he will be charged over the contract killing of Levan Jangveladze.
Opposition figure Khatia Dekanoidze said the investigation appeared to have been launched only after pressure linked to figures in the criminal underworld, questioning why Partskhaladze had not been wanted earlier despite alleged evidence. She accused the ruling authorities of tolerating the influence of so-called “thieves-in-law” and described what she called a criminal style of governance.
Georgia’s Interior Ministry said prosecutors had issued a formal decision to charge Partskhaladze based on newly obtained evidence, adding that the case had now been fully solved and that international search procedures would be initiated.
