Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of the opposition party United National Movement, has condemned the assault of a civilian by law enforcement officers in the city of Gori, describing the incident as evidence of "systemic violence" within the state apparatus.
Speaking to reporters, Dekanoidze argued that the system is rooted in violence and increasingly turns against its own citizens rather than protecting them.
"The more ruthless a system becomes toward its own citizens, the sooner it will ultimately destroy itself," she said.
According to Dekanoidze, individuals who criticize the ruling authorities, including civil activists, opposition representatives, and government critics, are at greater risk of becoming victims of abuse. She accused the government of prioritizing self-preservation over the protection of citizens and claimed that state institutions are being used to shield the ruling system from accountability.
The comments follow an incident in the Kombinati settlement of Gori, where local resident Papuna Lotsulashvili was allegedly physically assaulted by law enforcement officers.
Georgia's Prosecutor's Office has arrested six individuals in connection with the case. The victim's condition deteriorated late at night, requiring his transfer to a hospital for further medical treatment.
