Officers of the Adjara Main Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Central Criminal Police Department have arrested a Ukrainian citizen, L.Sh., born in 1988, on charges of illegally purchasing, possessing, and facilitating the distribution of a particularly large quantity of narcotic drugs. The arrest took place in Khelvachauri Municipality.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs on Monday said a search of the suspect’s person and temporary residence resulted in the seizure of a large batch of methadone prepared for sale - 91 individually packaged doses. Police also confiscated materials used for packaging narcotics, including adhesive tapes and an electronic scale.

The offenses carry a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
