The joint opposition candidate for chair of Tbilisi City Assembly Elene Khoshtaria has cast her ballot in today’s municipal elections and stated that the race will decade if Georgia will remain in the hands of the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Bidzina Ivanishvili, ‘who is running the country from the backstage and led the country to poverty.’
Khoshtaria stated that the elections are also a referendum which will push the ruling party to accept the conduct of repeat parliamentary elections if the GD receives less than 43 percent of votes in the elections.
The GD, which backed out of the EU-mediated agreement back in July which obliged the holding of repeat elections if it received fewer votes than 43 percent, says that no repeal elections are possible.
