Moldovan citizen arrested in western Georgia on major drug trafficking charges

A Moldovan citizen has been arrested in Georgia’s Black Sea resort town of Kobuleti on charges of illegal purchase, possession and facilitation of the sale of a particularly large quantity of narcotics, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.

The body added law enforcement officers searched the suspect’s temporary residence and, during an investigative experiment, seized a particularly large quantity of methadone prepared for sale, along with materials used for packaging narcotics, from locations identified by the accused.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing.
