A military hospital employee under Georgia’s Defence Ministry has been charged with bribery, the Prosecutor’s Office announced on Saturday.
According to investigators, the head of the outpatient-diagnostic department at the Giorgi Abramishvili Military Hospital allegedly accepted a ₾3,000 ($1,117.51) bribe in exchange for issuing a medical report containing false information. The document allowed a conscript to defer mandatory military service for three years.
The Prosecutor’s Office said the suspect abused his official position to carry out the scheme.
The crime is punishable by up to nine years in prison. Prosecutors have also requested pre-trial detention as a preventive measure.
