Kyiv has plans to spend 175 billion hryvnias, about 4.5 billion dollars, for the purchase of missiles and ammunition next year, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defence Yurii Dzhyhyr announced this week.

He noted about 80 billion hryvnias, 2.3 billion dollars, would be spent on military equipment, on the Government instruction.

Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries in October announced a “significant increase” in domestic shell production, although Kyiv still largely depends on military aid from partner states amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.

The European Union is preparing a financial assistance package for Ukraine for 2024-2027, in the amount of about 50 billion euros. The bloc’s 27 member states will vote on this package at the December 14-15 summit. But there is a threat that it could be blocked by Hungary.

The EU, however, has  pointed to the “plan B” if Budapest refused to vote for the aid.
