Land has fallen on several locations on the Rikoti pass connecting East and West Georgia, where a special mode of traffic has been operating since spring.
The country’s road department on Thursday cited heavy rain as the reason and said the traffic movement had been restored after “intensive cleaning”.
At the Ricoti pass, where the construction of the high-speed highway is underway, the landslide process became active in the spring. The department cited heavy rains as the cause and denied allegations on the “wrongly conducted ” construction that allegedly triggered disasters.
The opposition and domestic environmental agencies claim the construction is going on with “serious violations”.
Cars and passenger vehicles are allowed on the pass between 06:00 to 21:00, while trailers and semi-trailer have permissions from 23:00 to 05:00.
