Georgian Colonel Lasha Beridze believes Russia has no interest in any form of negotiation or peaceful resolution with Ukraine. Referring to the latest April 24 Russian attack on Kyiv, he says it is clear Putin doesn’t want peace.

“He is not interested in negotiations under any circumstances, because transitioning this war into a peaceful phase is something he cannot achieve,” Beridze said. “Everything else is just creating an illusion.”

He emphasized that the latest developments on the battlefield clearly reflect the Kremlin’s strategy of escalation rather than diplomacy. According to him, any expectations of peace talks are unrealistic, especially given the increasingly aggressive tactics Russia is employing.

“Unfortunately, the Trump administration created the illusion that it could bring peace. But the war in Ukraine is a long-term conflict. The more time passes, the more aggressive Putin becomes,” he noted.

The Georgian military expert also warned that as Russia’s ability to strike military targets diminishes, the focus will shift even more dangerously toward civilian infrastructure. “Putin can no longer easily target military sites, so he will turn to attacking civilian areas more aggressively. This war is going to get tougher.”

He acknowledged that Ukraine faces a particularly challenging moment ahead, especially with uncertainty around US support. “Ukraine will now have to navigate this period without the backing of the United States. This will be the most difficult phase yet, and they must prepare more seriously for what’s to come.”

Despite the grim outlook, Beridze highlighted one positive development: Ukraine has learned to defend itself. “It will take time to adapt to a new strategy, but what’s important is that Ukraine now knows how to protect itself and how to fight.”
