Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the West of provoking internal conflicts in Georgia and attempting to ignite a “color revolution” in the country.

Speaking at a meeting of security and intelligence chiefs from CIS member states, Lavrov alleged that Western nations were employing geopolitical tactics to destabilize the region.

“The collective West is provoking internal conflicts, hotbeds of tension, and does not hesitate to use various dirty geopolitical technologies – from organizing large-scale information wars to directly unleashing color revolutions, as they are now trying to do in Georgia,” Lavrov claimed, according to Russian media reports.

Sergei Naryshkin, the Director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, echoed these sentiments at the same meeting, warning of an attempted coup in Tbilisi. He expressed hope that efforts attributed to Western actors would be thwarted.
