Lawyer doubts Saakashvili not behind “his” social media post over poisoning

Shalva Khachapuridze, the lawyer of the currently imprisoned former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, on Monday expressed his doubts that the convicted former top official had not written the post earlier today, in which he dismissed the claims by another lawyer over his alleged poisoning. 

“I will find out whether Saakashvili wrote this post or not. His health does not allow him to publish posts. If he wrote it, it is interesting what was the reason for it, if he did not write it, I will find out. I suspect that he did not write it. We have been making  statements over months about the alleged presence of some metals in his body which could complicate his health”, Khachapuridze said. 

Saakashvili has urged everyone not to politicize his health topics and dismissed claims by his lawyer Valeri Gelbakhiani over alleged poisoning. 

He also expressed his gratitude to the medical staff of the Vivamedi civilian clinic in Tbilisi, where he was transferred for treatment in May. 

The justice ministry said in response they would address a domestic forensics bureau to conduct a toxicological examination on Saakashvili.
