Lawyer: new rules introduced for ex-pres. Saakashvili’s visitors

Shalva Khachapuridze, a lawyer of imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili, on Tuesday said new regulations had been set for the visitors of his client, who has been undergoing treatment in the Vivamedi civilian clinic since May 12. 

“New regulations have been introduced to us. In general, it happened in this form for a few months. It was in the middle of the pandemic in the sixth isolator, there was nothing like it anywhere else”, he said. 

Khachapuridze said along with the mandatory rule to wear medical clothing during the visit to Saakashvili, lawyers wiould not be able to enter the chamber on weekends. Only lawyers will have the right to issue letters.

Saakashvili was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in self-imposed polirtical exile. 

Currently he holds Ukrainian citizenship.
