The Lelo – Partnership for Georgia faction, which boycotted plenary sessions in the state legislature, demanding former president Mikheil Saakashvili’s transfer to a civil clinic on November 2, has resumed participation in plenary sessions as Saakashvili has been transferred to Gori hospital and he suspended his 50-day hunger strike.
The Lelo faction is composed of six opposition MPs, as Lelo party founder Mamuka Khazaradze has recently requested the suspension of his MP status and has plans to fight on the street for the annulment of recent municipal election results.
The opposition parties claim that the ruling Georgian Dream fabricated the October municipal elections.
Saakashvili accepted the transfer to Gori military hospital from Gldani Prison No.18 hospital at the end of the last week and suspended his hunger strike.
Saakashvili, who was convicted in absentia in Georgia for abuse of power in 2018, says he returned after eight years in political exile to remove the Georgian Dream government from power.
He has also been charged with five other offences, including illegal seizure of property, illegal rally dispersal, illegally crossing the border, embezzlement and abuse of authority.
