Lelo opposition party leader, Mamuka Khazaradze, who has announced recently that he is leaving his parliamentary mandate, says that he will buy a flat in Tsalenjikha, western Samegrelo region of Georgia, and will assist a newly elected opposition mayor there.

The United National Movement opposition party candidate, Giorgi Kharchilava, was the only opposition candidate who defeated the ruling party opponent in the mayoral race.

The ruling party has won 63 of 64 mayoral constituencies in recent municipal elections.

“Tsalenjikha is a real example of a real democracy,” Khazaradze said at the opposition rally in Zugdidi, Samegrelo, late yesterday.

The United National Movement, Lelo and several other opposition parties are holding rallies across Georgia to demand the annulment of municipal election results.

They claim that the ruling party fabricated the elections.

Khazaradze has decided to quit parliament in protest following the elections and focus on the fight on the street.
