The Lelo opposition party has offered a dialogue between the ruling party and the opposition, amid the current political tension, to prevent further escalation of the situation.

The party says that all political parties should place state interests above their political interests and focus on finding ways out from the tension

“Georgia is going through a very complicated period in its history,” said the party.

The party says that the arrested former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been on hunger strike for 39 days, should be taken to a civil clinic and he should be allowed to present before a fair court.

Saakashvili says he returned to Georgia after eight years in political exile to remove the Georgian Dream from power.

He was arrested in Tbilisi on October 1, and has been on hunger strike since then.

However, the ruling party and the government officials say that Saakashvili is ‘staging a show’ by his hunger strike and has plans to cause unrest if he is transferred to a civil clinic.

The Georgian Justice Ministry released a video on the weekend which shows that Saakashvili is eating while on hunger strike.

Saakashvili responded that he receives the food supplements alone which are recommended by doctors.

The council of doctors are scheduled to assess Saakashvili’s health later today.

Saakashvili was convicted in Georgia for abuse of power back in 2018 in absentia and was sentenced to six years in prison.
