Levan Bezhashvili, an MP of the United National Movement opposition party, on Monday urged the party’s supporters and members to participate in the nationwide protest scheduled for October 4.
“October 4 is a day of public protest - the dictatorial regime must end, and the people must take power into their own hands according to the Constitution. The United National Movement calls on all its supporters and members to join the protest,” Bezhashvili said.
He described the protest as a response to what he called the consolidation of a dictatorial system in Georgia, citing the weakening of democratic institutions, including Parliament, the judiciary, political parties, and civic organisations.
“October 4 is not organised by any political party. As a party, we will encourage our members and supporters to participate, but ultimately, all members of society will take part. Our party’s activists will be there alongside the Georgian people to voice their protest,” he added.
Bezhashvili emphasised that the goal of the demonstration was clear: “The dictatorial regime must end. The Georgian people do not deserve a dictatorial Government.”
