Opposition politician Levan Khabeishvili has told a court in Tbilisi that the case against him lacks both a victim and any identifiable object of harm.
“There is no victim in this case, no object,” Khabeishvili said during proceedings at Tbilisi City Court, arguing that prosecutors had failed to demonstrate any material or personal benefit connected to the accusations against him.
He also stated that the prosecution had left him with no possibility of admitting guilt because, according to him, there was nothing to confess to.
“Should a politician be sent to prison because of perceptions?” Khabeishvili asked the court.
Judge Irakli Khuskivadze is expected to deliver the verdict today.
Khabeishvili was arrested on 11 September 2025 and charged under Article 339 of Georgia’s Criminal Code for allegedly promising a bribe to a public official in exchange for unlawful actions. He also faces charges under Article 317, which concerns public calls to overthrow state authority.
