Levan Khabeishvili, chair of the political council of Georgia’s United National Movement (UNM), has urged citizens to turn off their televisions and join a rally on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi on 4 October.
The message, delivered from prison by Khabeishvili’s lawyer Lasha Tkesheladze, called on the public to celebrate what the opposition describes as a victory and to ensure no one stays at home.
“Khabeishvili is asking people to remove batteries from remotes, switch off TVs, and all come to Rustaveli on 4 October. No one should stay at home or in front of the television; everyone should be there to witness the victory firsthand,” Tkesheladze said.
A large-scale protest is planned in the capital on 4 October. Organisers say the demonstration aims to carry out a peaceful revolution to remove the Georgian Dream government from power.
