Machavariani urged citizens to maintain this spirit beyond the mourning period, saying people have a responsibility to remain in a state of mutual respect and compassion

Levan Machavariani, first deputy chair of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, has called on Georgians to preserve the unity and solidarity shown during the days of mourning following the Patriarch’s death.

Speaking at a plenary session of parliament on Tuesday, Machavariani said society had demonstrated mutual support, respect and love in recent days, describing the farewell to the Patriarch as “dignified” and unifying.

“It is a matter of pride that we stood together and bid farewell to our spiritual leader with such unity. This solidarity and love would bring the greatest joy to our spiritual father,” he said.

Machavariani urged citizens to maintain this spirit beyond the mourning period, saying people have a responsibility to remain in a state of mutual respect and compassion.

“We must not leave this state of love. We should strive every day to improve ourselves, as we were taught, and support one another,” he added, concluding with the phrase: “God, homeland, human.”
