Levan Machavariani, first deputy chairman of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party, has reacted to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement that renewed relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin could be “beneficial” for Europe.

Machavariani on Friday called on members of the public who had been persuaded that Ukraine was defeating Russia - and who had labelled those with a different opinion as “pro-Russian” - to begin thinking critically.

“Those who were convinced that Ukraine was defeating Russia, and if anyone considered this unrealistic, were called ‘pro-Russian’; it is now time to start thinking critically,” Machavariani wrote on social media.
