Levan Machavariani, Deputy Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has criticized the opposition for what he called “fascist” comments following a meeting between Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili and US Ambassador Robin Dunnigan.

“There is nothing extraordinary about a foreign ambassador meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. This is part of their job. However, you all saw the level of commotion from the opposition over this matter. They stormed the US Embassy’s Facebook page, posting fascist comments, claiming that Bochorishvili was given legitimacy through this meeting,” Machavariani stated.

He dismissed the opposition’s claims, stressing that Georgian Dream does not need anyone’s legitimacy.

“We have stated multiple times that our primary source of legitimacy is our more than 1.12 million voters who supported Georgian Dream. We secured 54% in the parliamentary elections, and that is more than enough for our legitimacy,” he added.
