Levan Nikoleishvili, a member of the United Neutral Georgia movement, has responded to reports that the United States is preparing a sanctions package against Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder and honorary chair of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.

Nikoleishvili asserted that if sanctions against Ivanishvili are indeed imposed, it would serve as proof that there was a genuine attempt to involve Georgia in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

“If the Americans truly move forward with sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili, it will be clear evidence that they wanted to drag Georgia into the war. Let’s be honest—they should have learned by now that blackmailing this man does not work. They already tried freezing his assets in a Swiss bank, and Ivanishvili’s response was clear: peace and the homeland are not for sale!” Nikoleishvili said.

He went on to criticize European Union officials, accusing them of blindly following the current US administration’s directives and engaging in what he described as “shameful” threats against Georgia.

“It’s time to put an end to this blackmail over false promises of joining the EU and NATO. We must win the upcoming elections and send a strong message to Georgia’s adversaries,” Nikoleishvili added.

He concluded by emphasizing the need for Georgia to adopt a neutral stance and promote peaceful coexistence with its Abkhazian and Ossetian communities within a united Georgia.

“It’s time to consider a neutral status for our country and to focus on peaceful living with our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers in a united Georgia,” he concluded.
