Levan Nikoleishvili, a member of United Neutral Georgia, has criticized the state of contemporary Europe under the European Union, claiming that ongoing political, economic and social crises are pushing the bloc toward a “disaster point.”
Writing on social media, Nikoleishvili argued that while the political situations of EU member states vary significantly, there is a growing desire for independence and protection of sovereignty. He said unemployment remains high and social safety nets are not only insufficient but fail to meet basic public needs in many countries.
Nikoleishvili warned that with the onset of winter, Europe faces intensified problems including energy resource shortages, high heating costs and budgetary constraints, which he says pose direct threats to the broader population, especially the socially vulnerable.
On security issues, the analyst said the EU has failed to ensure stability amid the protracted Russia-Ukraine war and has instead become “a driver of crisis escalation.” He criticized what he described as double standards in EU governance and said the organisation’s policies are consuming billions of euros of taxpayers’ money while ordinary citizens see the war’s damaging effects on job stability and social values.
Nikoleishvili also claimed that sanctions on Russia, coupled with continued trade in energy and strategic goods, create a contradictory situation that undermines the EU’s effectiveness. He asserted that tensions extend even to strategic partner the United States and that NATO is “losing its function.”
According to Nikoleishvili, real stability today is found in countries that are not part of military or economic blocs and that manage their political, economic and energy futures independently.
