The United National Movement (UNM) on Tuesday confirmed it will participate in a protest of eight opposition groups scheduled for 13 September over the country’s EU visa liberalization issue.

Speaking to the media, UNM leader Levan Sanikidze said the party did not recognise any “exclusive centres of protest” and emphasised that it avoided involvement in ad hoc street movements, but would take part in this event due to its specific focus.

“The demonstration has a clear message linked to the suspension of visa-free travel,” Sanikidze said. “On 31 August, we will know the European Union’s response, which will clarify whether the conditions required of Georgia to maintain visa-free travel have been met. It is evident that the Georgian Dream government has not fulfilled these criteria.”
