A historic peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, guaranteed by the United States, marks the start of a new era in the South Caucasus — but Georgia has been left out of the process, says Levan Sanikidze, one of the leaders of the United National Movement.

“I sincerely congratulate our neighbors — Armenia and Azerbaijan — on signing this important agreement, guaranteed by the US. This is a major achievement for them. But the question remains: where is Georgia? Where is the Georgia that once played a leading role in the region? At this moment, we have no security guarantees,” Sanikidze said.

He stressed that while Armenia and Azerbaijan have secured protection from security threats through this deal, Georgia was not represented at the talks and is losing the crucial role it once had.

“Under the previous government, and especially during Mikheil Saakashvili’s presidency, Georgia held a special position in the South Caucasus — driven by European integration, democratic development, and regional leadership. Today, our country has been sidelined from these events,” Sanikidze stated, adding that Georgia will not be part of such negotiations “as long as Bidzina Ivanishvili controls the current Georgian state.”
