Georgian Government chief meets IOM regional director to discuss migration

Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Government Administration of Georgia, met with Arthur Erken, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia at the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The meeting focused on migration issues and cooperation between the Georgian government and the IOM, the government press office said on Thursday.
The discussion covered recent amendments to the Law on Labor Migration, as well as the employment of foreign nationals in Georgia and the issuance of new work permits.
Zhorzholiani stressed that, in order to protect the labor rights and interests of Georgian citizens, certain sectors were designated where foreign employment is allowed, and others where it is prohibited.
The meeting also addressed measures to combat illegal migration and the steps the Georgian state has taken in this regard.
