Head of the Government Administration of Georgia Levan Zhorzholiani on Tuesday said the Government has taken significant steps to strengthen transparency, accountability and effective monitoring mechanisms, while speaking at a panel discussion during the United Nations Public Service Forum.
Addressing a session on strengthening state accountability through oversight, Zhorzholiani highlighted reforms implemented by the Georgian Government to improve governance and public sector oversight.
"The Georgian Government has taken important steps in terms of transparency, accountability and effective monitoring. I would particularly highlight the reforms initiated in Parliament regarding public procurement, which significantly improve the situation. In the area of monitoring, the Government Efficiency Department has been established, which generated savings of more than ₾390 million ($147.47mln) for the budget during the first six months of 2025 and the corresponding period of 2026.
“We have also significantly strengthened the State Audit Office. Following recent changes, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has been integrated into it and has become part of a constitutional body, ensuring even greater independence," Zhorzholiani said.
He noted that transparency, accountability and effective governance are essential not only for good public administration but also for increasing public trust, ensuring the proper functioning of institutions and delivering tangible results for citizens.
Zhorzholiani also discussed the role of the Government Administration as a coordinating body and outlined reforms carried out by the authorities, including amendments to public procurement legislation, as well as the activities of the Government Efficiency Department and the State Audit Office.
According to the Government Administration, particular emphasis was placed on the role of monitoring, transparency and independent oversight mechanisms in improving the integrity and quality of public institutions and services.
The United Nations Public Service Forum will continue for three days, bringing together participants to discuss issues including digital transformation, the responsible use of artificial intelligence, data protection, inclusive governance, anti-corruption efforts, citizen engagement and improving access to public services.
