Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Government Administration of Georgia, has announced that more than 52 million GEL has been saved in just one month as a result of a large-scale optimisation drive across state-owned enterprises, including Georgian Railways and major energy companies.
Speaking on Thursday, Zhorzholiani described the cost-cutting effort as the first step in a broader reform plan unveiled by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, “aimed at turning state-owned enterprises from self-sustaining entities into profit-generating contributors to the national economy.”
“State-owned enterprises should not be self-sufficient - they must generate profit. That is their main purpose,” Zhorzholiani said. “They must be able to take loans, implement infrastructure projects, and contribute to the state budget. Optimisation is the first step toward this goal.”
