Georgian ombudsperson Nino Lomjaria says that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has demanded from the Georgian government to provide proper medical care for former president Mikheil Saakashvili based on the conclusion of the medical panel which was invited by her.
In its conclusion released on November 17, the medical panel said that Saakashvili’s health condition on the 39th day of his hunger strike was critical and he needed an immediate transfer to a multi-profile civil clinic from a prison hospital.
Head of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Irakli Kobakhidze has accused the medical panel of making a ‘fake conclusion’ and said that this could cause legal problems for Lomjaria.
“Will they (the ruling party) say again that the conclusion was fake or made unprofessionally,” Lomjaria posted on Facebook.
Saakashvili stopped his 50-day hunger strike at the end of last week.
