Former MP and Olympic wrestler Kurtanidze remains in custody by decision of court

Batumi City Court in Georgia’s Adjara region has ruled to keep Luka Kurtanidze, former MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and former president of the National Wrestling Federation of the country, in custody without bail in a domestic violence case.

The next court hearing has been scheduled for November 13.

The Prosecutor’s Office said Kurtanidze had been charged with domestic violence, intentional damage to a family member’s personal belongings and violation of the requirements imposed under a restraining order.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison.
