French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived together in Kyiv by train on May 9 to attend a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, an informal alliance of countries supporting Ukraine.
The three leaders were later joined in the Ukrainian capital by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. During their visit, they held meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, and the head of the Presidential Administration, Andriy Yermak.
“Ukraine can count on us,” Chancellor Merz wrote on X after arriving in Kyiv. He also confirmed that all four countries support US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in the ongoing war.
The Coalition of the Willing consists of states committed to taking decisive action against Russian aggression, particularly by providing Ukraine with military assistance and long-term security guarantees.
