Macron: turning to Europe, Georgia knows it can count on France

We have heard Georgians’ commitment to democratic values, freedom of media and freedom of association. Turning to Europe, Georgia knows that it can count on the friendship of France,” French president Emannuel Macron has tweeted. 

 

The tweet comes following mass protests in Tbilisi over the transparency bill that was on Thursday withdrawn by the ruling party. 

 

The bill envisaged the registration of domestic NGOs and media organizations as foreign agents if they received more than 20 percent of their incomes from abroad.
