Hungary’s incoming leadership will continue to maintain positive relations with Georgia while adhering to a policy of non-interference in other countries’ internal affairs, Péter Magyar, leader of the TISZA party, stated in response to a question from Rustavi 2.

According to Magyar, the foreign policy approach of the previous government under Viktor Orbán does not predetermine the direction of Hungary’s future relations with other states.

“The fact that the Orbán government maintained close ties with certain countries does not mean that Hungary will have strained relations with them going forward. Where relations have been problematic, we will seek to improve them. It is in our shared interest to cooperate, work together, and prosper together,” Magyar said.

He emphasized that Hungary will not attempt to influence political processes abroad.

“We will not interfere in the internal affairs of any country, including Georgia, North Macedonia, or elsewhere. We will not attempt to influence elections, this is not our style, nor is it the role of any European government. Governments are elected to represent their own citizens,” he noted.

Magyar also expressed his willingness to visit Tbilisi, stating that he looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Georgia.
