Georgia’s largest internet provider, Magti, has attributed the internet outage on Monday to extensive network damage affecting both Georgia and Turkey.

In its first statement on the incident, Magti explained that Georgia’s internet access relies on re-insured channels, one of which was damaged in Turkey due to adverse weather conditions.

Heavy snowfall and avalanche risks in the region have hindered the partner company’s technical teams from accessing the damaged infrastructure to make repairs.

The situation was further complicated by damage to the backup channel in Georgia’s Adjara region, in the country’s west.

Magti reported that the backup network sustained damage in three locations. The company has labeled these incidents as “suspicious damages” and has provided information to Georgian law enforcement agencies for further investigation.

Despite the challenges, Magti announced that all three points of damage in Adjara were fully repaired by 01:54 on Tuesday, restoring internet service to its subscribers.
