Main question on Saakashvili will be answered when it’s time – president Zourabichvili

Georgian president Salome Zourabichvili on Wednesday said a “main question” over the pardon of convicted former president Mikheil Saakashvili would be answered when “it is time”, at a special press briefing. 

She also slammed the ruling Georgian Dream, which supported her earlier in the presidential race, for the comments that if she pardons Saakashvili, the move would affect her career. 

“They are threatening me with some kind of career, it turns out that I will say goodbye to this career, it turns out that I want some other career. They forget how old I am, but if anyone knows me in this country, they probably also know that I left my career there a long time ago. I am only interested in this country, I am only interested in its European future”, Zourabichvili said. 

In her previous comments, Zourabichvili said she had no plans to pardon Saakashvili, citing human rights violations under his rule, stressing pardon could not be issued until three cases involving the former president were still pending.
