Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili has described the planned establishment of a new Diplomacy Academy as an “intellectual shield” for the country and a strategic investment in Georgia’s future.
In a statement released after the government approved the initiative Friday, Botchorishvili said the academy would help prepare a new generation of diplomats and public servants capable of defending Georgia’s national interests and sovereignty on the international stage.
She claimed the creation of the academy formed part of broader reforms launched within the Foreign Ministry last year, aimed at strengthening Georgia’s diplomatic service through modern, analysis-based approaches.
Botchorishvili said the government also began a wider university reform programme in 2025 intended to improve the quality of higher education across the country.
She noted that the new academy would offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in political science and international relations, with a focus on developing analytical skills, ethical standards and innovative thinking among students.
The foreign minister said Georgia required both experienced diplomats and a younger generation prepared to respond to modern international challenges and actively protect the country’s strategic interests.
Botchorishvili thanked Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for supporting the initiative and also expressed gratitude to Education Minister Givi Mikanadze for cooperation on the project.
Earlier on Friday, Kobakhidze announced that the government had decided to establish the higher educational institution, the Georgian Diplomacy Academy.
